Social club play

Club social sessions are where you can come along and mix in with other members from the club.  This is a great way to get to know other members.  No partner or booking required.  Just turn up!

Social play is always doubles based which enables more people to play.  All full adult members are welcome (please see members eligibility under ‘ Becoming a Member ‘).  Junior members must have the coach’s permission to attend.

To encourage an enjoyable level of play for all, and to enable players to improve, we have a social play co-ordinator to oversee each session and they will do their best to pair members accordingly. As the name suggests social sessions are there to be enjoyed by all so we kindly ask you to respect the pairings of the co-ordinator. Tea/Coffee is available at these sessions and sometimes even a slice of cake !

Please see following timetable of social play:

Day Times
Monday 10am – 1pm
Tuesday 7pm – 9pm
Wednesday 1pm – 3pm
Saturday 1pm – 4pm

League Match play

Competitive inter-club matches are also doubles based.  Kirby currently has 3 Mens teams, 2 Ladies teams, and 3 Mixed teams in the summer Colchester & District League which runs from April until August.  Register your interest NOW for 2018 summer!

For those who are not selected, or who would like to get initial experience of match play with other clubs you can play in the aptly named Friendly League.

The club runs all year round and for competitive matches from October-March the club enters Mens and Mixed teams in the Winter League.  These matches take place either at Kirby or Wivenhoe.

Free play

Any courts not being used for matches, coaching or club sessions are free for the use of members.  Visitors to the club can play three times for a nominal fee before joining.
Note:  Matches typically use the 3 courts nearest the clubhouse.  The other courts can still be used by members during matches provided they are not needed for coaching.
